Rachel Watson is a cellist and researcher with a passion for music education. She teaches for a leading music charity, and privately online and at her studio in SE London.
About Me
Rachel is a versatile baroque and modern cellist with a particular love for music education. She is a staff teacher and school lead for London-based charity Music Masters, and mentors other teachers through their Musicians of Change PGCEi course. She has a varied freelance performance career, including founding the Scordatura Collective, a chamber ensemble dedicated to performing and promoting music composed by women.
In addition to the cello, Rachel researches musical culture in the nineteenth century. She is currently in the final stages of a PhD at King’s College London studying women in orchestras from 1880-1913. She is a graduate of the University of Oxford and Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
Teaching and Education
Rachel is a dedicated educator, with over fifteen years of experience in a range of settings. She teaches the cello, musicianship and music theory as well as working as a mentor and lecturer for Musicians of Change, an innovative PCGEi course for instrumental teachers provided by Music Masters and Birmingham City University.
